Police Chief John Nesky, Deputy Dwayne Preston and Cpl. Moten of Bowie City Police Department met with staff from Autism FYI Org to hear how they can partner together to help keep the Autism Community safe. Those with Autism do not respond the same way to being touched as others. Learning how to recognize someone on the Autism Spectrum and what to do to de-escalate a situation can be a very helpful skill. AFYI Registry members can wear an alert logo that lets officers know immediately that they are among those that need special considerations. This helps Police by providing them immediately with information that can help keep everyone safe. The Chief will look over the Power Point Presentation provided by Autism FYI Org and see if they can add something to their existing program to inform their officers. We appreciate their commitment to the Special Needs Community of Bowie.
